Acne
Acne is
certainly the most disturbing of all skin problems. It destroys
our self-esteem and makes us feel we are ugly. You can not
scrub acne away. You can not wish acne away. Acne skin is
very sensitive skin. All the information you read below applies
to acne. Anything and everything is an acne aggravator. Thanks
to years of research there are several topical products that
are very effective in combating acne.
Sun
Sun is
the main reason for skin aging. Just look at the skin on a
part of your body that rarely sees the sun. Notice the difference.
It would be impossible to change our daily lifestyle so as
not to include the sun. But we can be sure to apply a sunblock
to all exposed areas every morning before we begin our day.
Also, research has found that computers and fluorescent lighting
emit damaging rays for our skin. So even if you are indoors,
you are being exposed to sun damage.
Stress
Stress
is a normal part of life. How we channel that stress is our
choice. Negative reaction to stress will have a negative effect
on our emotional, physical and mental health, ultimately affecting
our skin.
I recite
this poem many times a day:
Life
is ...
10% of what happens to me,
90% of how I react to it.
Smoking
Cigarette
smoking robs the skin of oxygen and vital nutrients. The skin
suffers from the deteriorating effects of carbon monoxide
and nicotine in the circulatory system. Smoking causes the
skin to have a pallid complexion and skin that wrinkles prematurely.
Alcohol
and Caffeine
Alcohol
and Caffeine deplete the body of vitamins and minerals needed
for a healthy complexion. They dehydrate the skin and impede
circulation, thus robbing the skin of precious moisture and
vital nutrients. This can lead to distended/broken capillaries.
Recent studies have shown that women are more prone to the
ill effects of alcohol and caffeine than men.
Water
Water
is essential for the skin to keep it moist, soft, supple and
clear. The skin requires a balance of oil and water. Dehydration
of the skin is one main cause of wrinkles. I recommend a minimum
of 8 glasses of distilled water per day. Water is a natural
appetite suppressant and will rid the body of toxins and waste
materials.
Rest
Our skin
as well as our entire body can only rejuvenate when we are
at rest. Sleeping a minimum of 7 hours per night is essential
to great skin. A really great bonus is 20 minutes of meditation
mid day. You can do it anywhere. Work, Car, Park. I find it
revives every part of me.
Nutrition
A well
balanced diet of proteins, fats and carbohydrates will benefit
the skin. Yes fats. Good Fats. Flaxseed oil and Olive oil
are two good fats. One tablespoon per day of either of these
will aid in digestion, which in turn will aid in good skin.
Eat a varied diet from whole, natural foods. Your health and
beauty depend on it.
Exercise
A regular
exercise routine will help to maintain a clear complexion,
calming the nerves and promoting a deeper, more revitalizing
sleep. Improve your appearance, reshape your figure, delay
the aging process, lengthen your life and overall make you
feel better about you.
Cleansing
and Massage
Massaging
the face is a great way to increase circulation, stimulate
oil production and remove toxins from the skin. After you
have completely cleansed, use your cleanser as a massage cream
and for 90 seconds massage your face. It feels great and you
will see the improvement.
